Make It With Wool - Sweater Contest

The Make it With Wool program is very passionate about promoting wool and other natural fibers  in as many ways as possible.  While some of our contestants will make full outfits with multiple pieces, this contest is specific for those only wanting to knit or crochet a sweater.

Make it With Wool Sweater Contest

Welcome to the Make it With Wool Sweater contest! We are excited to have you as part of the wonderful world of wool and natural fibers. The goal for Make It With Wool is to promote the use of natural fibers and wool products. We want natural fibers to be marketable and inviting to the consumer. With that being said, the MIWW Sweater Contest will be held in two stages. Stage 1 will be judged on the total look that you create with the sweater that you have made. Marketability and Fashion will be taken into consideration during this portion of the contest. Stage 2 (if you are selected as part of the top 10) will be judged on the construction of the sweater itself. The placings of the top 10 will be determined by both the total look and sweater construction.

Rules and Info to know:

  • ENTRY FEE: $15 To be mailed to:

                              MIWW c/o Karen Weight

                              480 south 300 west

                              Salem, UT 84653

  • Sweater may be any pattern
  • Must be knit or crochet (machine knit items are not accepted)
  • Sweater must be created of 60% or more natural fiber (cashmere, wool, alpaca, angora, etc.)
  • Judging will be based on the construction of the sweater created as well as the Total Look (accessories, garments accompanying the sweater, shoes, etc.)
  •  Sweaters that were entered in the 2025 sweater contest are not eligible to be entered again.

What is a Sweater?: A sweater is to have sleeves. May have button, toggle, zipper, etc. closures up front or back. Sweater should stop at a “top length” as dresses will not be accepted. Shawls, capes and ponchos should not be entered in this category.

Judging will be completed in 2 stages:

  • Stage 1: Contestants will submit a maximum of 3 photos to the contest along with the appropriate, completed, entry form. Photos and entry form will all be submitted through email. (submitting more than 3 photos will be an automatic disqualification).  Photos and entry form should be emailed to meighan.stevens@scoesc.org.

  • Stage 2: The top 10 will be notified by email that they have been selected for the top 10. This round, sweaters will be judged on the construction of the sweater itself. Top 10 will be placed based on Total Look and Construction scores. Contestants will mail their sweater (sweater only) to the sweater contest chair Meighan Stevens at:

                                   Meighan Stevens
                                  8310 Bennett School House Rd.

Contestants will be responsible for postage to and from the contest. Contestants should include a return postage stamp in their sweaters packaging (failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification).

  • Stage 3: Top 3 sweaters will be kept and put on display at the National Make it with Wool Contest and American Sheep Industry National Convention in Reno, NV in January 2026. Sweaters will be mailed back after the completion of the convention along with score sheets.
