Recycle-Upcycle Contest

Make It With Wool is committed to promoting the use of Natural Fibers including wool, cashmere, mohair, and alpaca.  Using these natural fibers is a great way to keep plastics and other man made materials out of landfills.  This contest is focused on increasing the use of natural fibers, thinking outside the box using

Rules and Requirements for the Recycle-Upcycle Contest

Recycle-Upcycle Contest

The overall goal of the Make It With Wool program is to promote the use of natural fibers and wool

products. MIWW strives to make natural fibers marketable and inviting to the consumer.

The MIWW Recycle–Upcycle contest is for those who can think outside the box or dig into one and

find a new way to use wool sweaters, garments or accessories.

The Recycle–Upcycle contest will be held in two stages:

❖ Stage 1 will be judged on the total look that you have created from your recycled piece to the

upcycled piece. Marketability and fashion sense will be taken into consideration during this

Stage. You will also be asked to tell the story of your recycle to upcycle journey for your

entry.

❖ Stage 2 (if you are selected to be part of the top 10 from Stage 1) will be judged on the

construction of the upcycle piece itself. The placings of the top 10 in Stage 2 will be

determined by the total look and the construction used in the upcycle process.

Rules and requirements:

❖ Fibers of recycled pieces must test at 60% or more natural fiber (cashmere, wool, alpaca,

angora, etc.)

❖ Entry fee: $15. Must be sent to contest chair Amanda Powell by entry deadline (see below

for address). Contestant are encouraged to also “like” and “follow” National Make It With Wool/Facebook

page, Backyard Green Films Facebook, and @re_synergy on instagram. (These

are the folks who are sponsoring and making this contest happen!)

❖ Judging process:

o Stage 1: Contestants will submit a maximum of 4 photos to the contest along with the

appropriate entry form completed. Photos and entry form will all be submitted through

email. Send entries to aspowell11@hotmail.com (submitting more than 4 photos will be

an automatic disqualification.)

o Stage 2: The top 10 from Stage 1 will be notified by email that they have been selected

for the next phase. For this round, the upcycled project will be judged on the

construction. The finished project will be mailed to the contest chair by the deadline for judging. The top 10 will be placed based on the total look and construction scores.

Contestants will mail their entry to:

▪ Amanda Powell at 4187 Old Post Road Havre MT 59501.

o Stage 3: The top 3 entries will be kept and put on display at the National Make It With

Wool contest and American Sheep Industry National Convention in Reno, Nevada in

January 2026. Entries will be mailed back after the completion of the Convention.

❖ Contestants will be responsible for postage to and from the contest. Contestants must

include a return postage label in their package (failure to do so will result in an automatic

disqualification).

❖ Entry forms and pictures are due by: November 1, 2025.

❖ IF you are in the Top 10, entries must arrive by December 1, 2025.

❖ Cash prizes will be sponsored by ReSynergy and Backyard Green Films.
